Recent Activities – France
Earlier this year, several BSP signatories and members of the French BSP Local Chapter have called for the creation of a new position of Secretary of State for Biotech in the new French government.
The Office of French Prime minister Elisabeth Borne has sent a response on 19 July underlining the importance of the biotech sector for France. It’s not often a Prime minister reacts to messages such as these, so we consider this to be a fantastic sign that the importance of biotech, and the work of the BSP, is recognized by the French government.
Recent Activities – UK
On 28th July, the Pharma Letter, a leading British biotech and pharmaceuticals news service, published an Op-ed of Amicus CEO John F. Crowley and Amicus General Manager for the UK and Ireland Charlie Galvin on the value of the BSP for sustainable access to life-changing treatments for patients and healthcare systems across the UK.
This OpEd was based on a fantastic speech given by Charlie to the British Royal Pharmaceutical Society, during which the need for the BSP and it’s mission was conveyed to a room filled with high-level stakeholders in British pharmaceuticals and public bodies.
Read the full Op-ed here.
Recent Activities – Portugal
On 19th September, BioMeet22 took place in Oeiras, Portugal, where the Portuguese Chapter of the BSP was officially launched.
The Pact was signed by no less than 14 Portuguese biotech leaders in the company of an esteemed audience, which included Portuguese Minister for Economy and Maritime Affairs Antonio Costa Silva, who congratulated and welcomed the signature of the BSP in Portugal in his closing remarks.
We are overjoyed that the BSP and its mission continues to grow across Europe!
The BSP received high visibility at the event in the form of posters, banners and leave-behinds shared with attendes. The event was also attended by journalists, and we are pleased to have already achieved two media publications at SAPO and Expresso. The event was live streamed and a recording is available here. Furthermore, the Op-ed from Steering Committee members Julien Patris (Alnylam) and Anant Murthy (argenx) has been published on 2 October in Observador and can be read in full here.
We are immensely grateful to P-BIO and Expresso for their support and collaboration in preparation for this milestone event.
